We Will Never Forget: A Personal Reflection on Law Enforcement Memorial Day

by John Reuter

There are days when words just don’t seem like enough—and today is one of those days.

Law Enforcement Memorial Day hits a little different when you’ve stood beside the families, heard the stories, and seen the pain that never really goes away. I’ve had the privilege of knowing some of these incredible men and women—and the families who carry on their legacy after their tour of duty on this earth ended far too soon.

It’s hard to put into words how it feels when you hear a spouse talk about the moment they got the call… or when a fellow officer shares a story that starts with laughter but ends with a pause because their friend isn’t here to tell it themselves.

These aren’t just names on a memorial.
These were husbands, wives, sons, daughters, moms, and dads.
They were friends, neighbors, and teammates.

And their sacrifice deserves to be remembered—not just today, but every day.

What This Day Means to Me Personally

As a veteran myself, and as someone who’s worked with and stood beside so many of these families, this day is personal. Every badge number… every folded flag… every story I’ve had the honor to hear… they stay with me.

It’s part of why we do what we do here at Integrity Homes. Whether it’s helping law enforcement families save money through Homes for Heroes, or just being a listening ear when someone needs to talk—we stand with our heroes in every way we can.

How We Can All Honor Them

I truly believe small acts of remembrance make a big difference. So, if you’re looking for a way to honor the fallen today, here are a few things you can do:

  • Light up your porch blue tonight as a sign that your home remembers.

  • Take a moment of silence with your family—talk about the meaning of sacrifice and service.

  • Thank a police officer if you see one today. You never know the kind of day they might be having.

  • Share a story if you’ve had the honor of knowing one of these heroes.

  • Pray for the families who live every day without their loved one by their side.

We Will Always Remember

To the families who carry the weight of loss every single day—we see you. We honor you. And we promise that your loved ones will never be forgotten.

Their stories live on in all of us.
And today, we hold the line for them.
